The menacing dark figure of Vader, who looms large over the heroes clearly defined in white, undoubtedly intrigued many who had not yet seen the film. Artist John Berkey, whose illustrations in the science fiction genre have been winning him acclaim since the 70's, produced several works of art for the fledgling Star Wars production. The formal composition of heroes, villains, and droids against a backdrop of dog-fighting starships was the perfect image to convey the spirit of the story and film.
